I’m Over It…

Google Slapped

On August 6, Google changed something in the way they calculate the search results.

They didn’t think that this site was of much value, so it dropped off the front pages of the results pages, so the traffic to the site dropped dramatically.

Viewer traffic has been headed downward over the last few years as fewer people watch TV and watch Survivor.

It’s not the Summer of 2000 any more.

CBS PR hasn’t contacted me about the upcoming interviews, so I won’t be attending those any more either.

As a result, I won’t be updating the site as often, if at all.

There’s an active forum. I’ll leave everything up, because some people are still coming to the site, but there won’t be weekly updates.

What next?

I’m willing to sell the domain name for less than it’s worth. It’s been appraised at $300k.

I’m also willing to turn it into something unrelated to the TV show.

I’m open to ideas.

What would you do with the “survivor.com” domain name?

Please leave a comment.

Thanks for the memories. It’s been a good run.

CBS ANNOUNCES 16 OF THE 18 CASTAWAYS FOR “SURVIVOR: SOUTH PACIFIC”

CBS today announced 16 of 18 castaways who will compete against each other on SURVIVOR: SOUTH PACIFIC, when the Emmy Award-winning series returns for its 23rd season with a special 90-minute edition, Wednesday, Sept. 14 (8:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.   Two of the 18 castaways, to be revealed later this week, are former castaways who will return to seek redemption.

The 18 castaways will be divided into two Tribes of nine: the Savaii Tribe and the Upolu Tribe, named after the two islands of Samoa.  The tribes are comprised of individuals from all different backgrounds with the same ultimate goal: to be the Sole Survivor.  While 16 of the contestants are new to the competition, two are former castaways who will be given another chance to compete for the million dollar prize.

Jeff Probst: Survivor returnee was cast because of Twitter, which has “a direct impact” ...

Jeff Probst said today that Survivor South Pacific’s casting twist happened because of a poll on Twitter, and that seems to be a reference to the somewhat random casting of Ozzy Lusth, who returns along with Ben “Coach” Wade for the season that recently concluded taping and will debut in September.

Talking to TV critics, Jeff said, according to Inside Reel, “Twitter allowed me to back in control of what I say and not go through a publicist or network. We’re doing a casting twist that was done by an informal twitter poll. The response was so fast and so clear to what they [the fans] like. It is a direct impact to how we are producing the show.”

Survivor: South Pacific Premiere Date Announced | Reality TV Magazine

The first episode of Survivor: South Pacific — the show’s 23rd season — will air on Wednesday, September 14 at 8 p.m.  This is the third consecutive season in which Survivor will air on Wednesday nights, which continues after CBS moved the show from Thursdays last fall for Survivor: Nicaragua.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, the title of Survivor: South Pacific is very vague in revealing the show’s actual location.  That’s because it’s a clever way of camouflaging the fact this season is actually filming in Samoa once again — this is where seasons 19 and 20 (Samoa and Heroes vs. Villains) were filmed.  Since CBS now uses the same location for back-to-back seasons, Samoa is also expected to be used for season 24, which will debut in February 2012.

Brandon Hantz, Russell Hantz’s nephew, rumored to be on Survivor South Pacific with Coach, Ozz...

Among the 16 new cast members who will be on Survivor South Pacific with returning players Ben “Coach” Wade and Ozzy Lusth is someone with a very familiar last name: Brandon Hantz, three-time loser Russell Hantz’s nephew.

Brandon, who’s 20 and married and works at his uncle’s company (Hantz Tankering Service), was identified as a cast member early this morning on Survivor Skills by DanieuBleau, who correctly identified this season’s location well before there was any concrete evidence.

Jeff Probst responds to Survivor fan’s complaints about Redemption Island, more + reality blur...

Although Jeff Probst is currently in Samoa filming Survivor South Pacific (which started production yesterday) and hasn’t tweeted in half a month, he has apparently responded to an open letter posted on Survivor Sucks that details complaints many viewers have about the CBS reality series, from its increasing reliance on returning cast members to the Redemption Island twist.

The well-written open letter was posted by beatles20147 and lacks the vitriol that is sometimes present in Sucks threads. It argues that “CBS, Jeff Probst and the producers of Survivor are so out of touch with what fans want out of this show that I have to assume that they are deliberately trying to kill it off” because “Survivor has strayed so far from its roots that it’s entirely unrecognizable from the phenomenon that transfixed us for a decade.” Its detailed complaints include bringing players back every season and duplicating Nicaragua’s structure again for season 23.

Most convincingly, it quoted Probst from 2005, when he said bringing voted players back into the game “went against everything we say the show is about — that if you are voted out, you are out of the game.” Back then, Jeff also said, “I would hope we never do All-Stars again, because Survivor is a game about strangers living together. Once they have had that experience and have spent time together socially, it’s a completely different game. It’s stunt casting.”

Coach, Ozzy returning for Survivor South Pacific + reality blurred

Ben “Coach” Wade and Oscar “Ozzy” Lusth are the two cast members returning for Survivor South Pacific. They’ll compete in Samoa with 16 new people, as Jeff Probst revealed during last season’s finale.

The evidence that Coach/Ben is on season 23 is pretty clear. As someone alerted me to, his voice mail message isn’t subtle: “I’m going to be traveling the next couple weeks,” he says, encouraging people to e.mail instead of texting or leaving a message. Ben conducts the Susanville Symphony, which he helped to found, and its final concert is next weekend, which up until recently he was conducting. But now, its web site says there will be “a very special guest conductor” instead.
